Student Membership
A free, structured peer support community built by and for students living with psychosis. Connect worldwide through daily chats and study halls, weekly peer support, discussion and creative groups, monthly guest speakers, social mixers, and early access to the new SWP app. The Student Membership requires enrollment with an Academic Liaison. An Academic Liaison is a faculty or staff member at the student’s school, or an SWP partner organization, who serves as a trusted point of contact within the student’s academic community and helps verify the student’s identity and affiliation with their academic institution before they receive access to our secure platform. This requirement helps ensure the student has a support network and points of contact outside of Students With Psychosis programming, assists in verifying identity before granting access to our secure server, and gives the student an accountability buddy in maintaining the Students With Psychosis Community Agreement, similar to a student code of conduct. Within the Family Membership, the family helps provide that additional support network.
Because SWP has a large virtual community, every student member joins with an Academic Liaison: a faculty or staff member at their school (or an equivalent contact) who confirms the student’s enrollment and serves as a point of contact for their SWP membership. The role helps SWP verify student identity and gives the student a trusted contact outside of SWP, bridging their virtual community and their school. Liaisons confirm that they know and support the student’s affiliation with their institution and agree to be a point of contact for their membership. There is no minimum time commitment. Their level of involvement is entirely up to them, and they are welcome to connect their institution more closely with SWP if and when their time allows. In return, liaisons receive a complimentary, annually renewing membership in the Researchers & Creatives Network. It includes virtual guest speaker events, the chance to present at those events, and the ability to post surveys or invite members to focus groups for their own research or creative work, subject to SWP’s review. This membership continues even if the student’s own membership status changes. Liaisons are not responsible for supervising, monitoring, investigating, or preventing a student’s conduct in SWP, and are not liable for their actions. SWP alone enforces its Community Agreement and decides on any restriction, suspension, or termination. A liaison may be notified of such an outcome, but is under no obligation to act. In cases of medical or academic withdrawal, SWP, not the liaison, advocates for the student’s return to their institution.
If a student does not have an Academic Liaison when applying, they should still apply, and SWP will find one for them.
